==Early life==
McGowan was born in New York City, to Vincent and Brenda McGowan. His older brothers are Doug and Matt McGowan.〔https://www.twitter.com/matt_mcgowan〕 He is of Irish and Jewish descent.〔http://www.jewishtelegraph.com/arts_1.html〕 Although they lived in New York City most of their lives, the McGowans traveled extensively due to Brenda's employment at United Airlines.
